Hello, I’m José Manuel Lizárraga

I’m currently  working  in the department of Research&Development and Innovation (R&D+i) at Sacyr Construction in Madrid, Spain.  I’m the Early Stage Researcher (ESR) number 6 within the SUP&R ITN project.

Project Title

SUP&R ITN Project- ESR6 -¨Half Warm Mix Recycling Asphalt in Urban Roads¨

The ceaseless pursuit of developing new greener and cleaner production technologies has encouraged the majority of contractor companies, local administrations and research centers to seek and bet on more sutainable construction processes. For these reasons, the use of high and total contents of reclaimed asphalt pavement of up to 100 RAP, in combination with half warm mixes (HWMRA), has emerged as a primary need for reducing   emissions released into the atmosphere, energy consumption and hence economic cost savings.  For all the above, the main objectives of my research project are the followings:

  • To examine the performance of these mixes under an accelerated ageing process in a draft conveciton oven in the laboratory to simulate field conditions after construction.
  • To evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing these mixes in both a prototype continuos asphalt mixing plant and a modifiied batch plant.
  • Mechanical characterization of these mixes under real heavy traffic conditions through the construction of test sections, such as: (i)Acelerated Pavement Test track (APT), (ii) urban test section and (iii) a road test section.
  • Study both short and long term performance of these mixes in the laboratory, such as: fatigue, rutting, stiffness modulus, moisture damage and tensile strength.
  • Technical and economic analysis and creation of a life cycle inventory.

To achieve these goals, the international collaboration is still being carried out with two partners involved:

Due to the mobility plan conditions,  i had to travel from Mazatlán, México to Madrid.
